In this work, we reproduced the benchmark aerosol deposition study of Shuvo et al. (2022) using the Eulerian–Lagrangian Discrete Phase Model (DPM). These simulations successfully captured the relationship between deposition efficiency and Stokes number, achieving an average deviation of only 2.6% from the published results.
The study highlights the role of turbophoresis, where turbulence drives particles toward the wall, leading to deposition. Velocity contours, particle trajectories, and deposition patterns provide further insight into the underlying flow physics.
This work demonstrates how CFD can be used to understand particle-laden flows relevant to respiratory systems, filtration technologies, and industrial transport processes.
